Terrorism is a constant fear for many americans. Due to many terroristic acts in our modern world torture is used to try to get information out of terrorist suspects. Torture is defined as the act of causing severe physical pain as a form of punishment or as a way to force someone to do or say something. Some forms of torture include waterboarding where the detainee is put under a simulation of drowning, electric shock, and holding mock executions and many other physically and mentally painful techniques. These detainees are often wrongfully held and tortured for crimes they may not be guilty of. Torture causes both physical and mental scars for these people and can not be allowed to continue. Our government does not have a strong foundation to use torture and therefore it is often not done in …show more content…
Information often gained from torture is useless and does not help the government prevent future terrorist attacks or gather insight to previous acts of terror. Even though it is immoral, torture is used as a default way to try to gain information because fear drives the interrogator to abuse it as an easy way out. The United States government must not use torture against terror suspects because it is not useful in finding out information, violates the same human rights that the United States of America has been trying to protect and it is not done in a safe manner. Most of the information gained from torturing terrorist suspects is not useful. The director of the CIA, John Brennan, Said that there has been no useful information acquired from Enhanced interrogation techniques used in Guantanamo Bay (Goldman Craighill).
