For many people who support censorship it may be a matter of selfish personal disagreement with what that person is advocating. For example, when they just want Marilyn Manson banned because people disagreed with his attitude about sex and religion, then that would be sacrificing the freedom of speech under the First Amendment. In my opinion, it is unconstitutional to censor lyrics. The First Amendment gives everyone the equal right to speak freely about anything, in any way. This does not exclude musicians. If I am allowed to speak my opinion (positively or negatively) on a subject, then so is a lyricist, even if he is speaking it to the public. When an organization protests against an artist, that is the same idea of musicians' controversial lyrics. Quite frankly, I think political correctness is the worst form of censorship. You're not allowed to speak your mind unless you're a minority people. They can say whatever they like. But, like a lot of people, we are not supposed to say certain things. Many pro-censor advocators are quick strike at the media for instilling such values in today's youth. They do not see, However, the recurring theme for the youth to avoid such ploys, we are labelled as easy to manipulate, unable to decipher the code of well-intentioned media vs the not so well intentioned media. These things we see and hear have become accepted in everyday youth society, but not media. This allows each individual to make their own choices, rather than have their own opinions fed to them by the media. Nevertheless, it is the part of the popular media deemed as offensive by certain people that leads to the entire censorship of the playing field, leading to our loss of the right to choose.
