The piece of artwork that I chose to analyze is by the Swiss artist Lodovico David and is titled The Judgment of Paris. This oil on canvas piece was originally painted in the Baroque period when the artist was living in Rome, and completed in the year 1690. The painting is now located in The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida. The museum purchased it in 1998. I got the opportunity to travel to Florida, visit the Ringling Museum, and view this piece along with many other European works of art. The painting definitely tells a story of a particular scene from some kind of Greek mythological tale. There was some form of judgment going on, thus giving the piece it’s title.
