From what I learned through my previous classes, sociocultural competence encompasses few key components, which include, our cultural self-awareness, recognizing our cultural differences, and our attitude towards these differences. Being socio culturally competent means that we know each culture are unique, we acknowledge that uniqueness and embrace it with open arms. Only then we can communicate and effectively be a part of the society that surrounds us. A socio culturally competent individual does not only recognize the difference of another culture, but also sees and acknowledges his or her own. I believe that is the most vital in being socio culturally competent. This is a very crucial aspect when we are talking about interacting with our society, especially in the U.S. since this country is very diverse.
