Catch-22 is just one of many logical fallacies. If a pilot is sane, they express concern for their own safety. If they are crazy, they do not and are required to be grounded. However, the pilot must ask to be grounded, and in doing so, proves they are sane. Such a clause brings up the question: how could such an illogical statement be written and enforced in this fictional army? The story isn’t limited to only this fallacy, though. Later, Yossarian learns of another case of Catch-22. The flight requirement, by army standards, is 50 flights in order to return home. However, the new Colonel requires 55 missions to return home.
