Outdated traditions and undeveloped ideas can be the most struggling obstacle for many societies to change and adapt to the modern life. By reading the two stories of: “the lottery” for Shirly Jackson and “A Rose to Emily” for Willian Faulkner, the two authors targeted the old traditions as an enemy which mangle the people’s life and doesn’t care of the innocents’ lives. They highlighted not only the lesions can be resulted of following these bad traditions but also how people react toward these ideas. It is very clear that all societies have many of outdates thought which need to be declined or at least developed to adapt the modern life requirements. The motivators of doing this required change will need to pass over many challenges to seek their goals. The defenders from old generations,…show more content… why they control their lives? Who founded them? What the benefit to follow them? And many questions. Always there are defenders of these traditions from the older generations who are trying to find logic or unlogic reason for these traditions existence. Usually they were founded as result of some situations happened in the past, or as a verdict of one of the higher ancestors. As example Mr. Summer who is responsible of arranging the lottery process, was trying to imposing some rituals by making some procedures and tilling stories about the black box used in the lottery and using the oldest man in village Warner to prove the rituals (Jackson 291). Like this situation, some societies used to follow some rituals from long time and they deliver this legacy which is against the logic, to the next generations. The predecessors colored these rituals with holiness and made them related to the religion, even it is not mentioned in the holy scripts of religions.
