Dear Aunt Bessie, I am writing this letter to thank you for the extremely generous gift of one million dollars. I have chosen to use this money for good, instead of using it on myself, I figured that’s what you and Uncle Joe would want me to do with this money. So, I have decided to donate $600,000 to food safety, $300,000 to child labor, and $100,000 to women’s suffrage. One of the boys was badly burned and coughing up black coal dust. Another young boy, by the name of Dennis Mckee, was smothered to death while working outside this same mine (Hine, National Child Labor Report). Aunt Bessie, you have grandchildren, think about how awful it would be for them to have to work in the horrible conditions. That is why I chose to give a portion of the money you gave me to help prevent child labor. The final cause that I have chosen to donate to, is women’s suffrage. I thought that this would be a good cause to donate my last $100,000 to, because both you and I are women who know how we don’t have enough rights as females in this country, so this way we can be a part of change for the better. As we both know, most women stay at home and take care of their children
