Being tragically raped and murdered at age fourteen is a tragic event that Susie Salmon went through in the book The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Being in grief of the heartbreaking death of the first born in the Salmon family causes them to be in a great despair. The book is told by Susie while she is in her heaven. Sebold hooks the reader with the mysterious and suspenseful mixture throughout the years. She explains very thoroughly the way that Susie’s family is able to grow and change after the incident. By using the other characters she made you more intrigued to find out what was going to happen next. The author shows both reactions of something so horrific happening.
