When I finished reading the first book of The Lunar Chronicles - Cinder, I found myself asking the question: 'Why didn’t I read this book sooner?!' I had this book on my eBook library for a few months. However, I found myself reading the first few pages of this book on more than one occasion, and then unfortunately choosing something else to read. When I did finally begin to read this book, I started to see this dystopian for what it was: an intriguing twist on the traditional tale of Cinderella. The characters and intricate details of the original Cinderella of which you would have probably not noticed, were seamlessly incorporated, almost to the point that you may not have guessed what this novel was based upon.

Marissa Meyer thought up a genuinely creative re-invention of one of the most popular classics, creating this new world from an out of the box perspective. There could definitely have been more expansion on details so loose ends were tied up, but it can’t be denied that it's an engaging read. From the futuristic concepts to the interesting twists and turns to the plot, we have a whole new enchanting world to be introduced to. While there are new spins added to the story, these are not exactly unpredictable. The evil step-mother, the two step-sisters who are indulged while she is denied, the tension with the Lunar Queen, the Prince and the ball, even the orange (pumpkin) coloured car, were warped echoes of Cinderella. So even though it's essentially a retelling, the originality in this novel is quite outstanding.
