The Atomic Bomb
By:Levi Walker, 7th grade
The United States of America and Russia have thousands of nuclear warheads pointed at each other ready to launch at a moment’s notice. The warhead can reach either country any time between 15 and 30 minutes, annihilating cities and killing millions.
What if you were to wake up to a nuclear bomb warning siren. What would you do, what could you do?
The Nuclear bomb was created because the process of splitting Uranium had been found so the United States created the bombs to use in World War II. They initiated the creation of it with the code name The Manhattan Project. The world’s greatest minds came together to work out how to make the bomb. A few of them were Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Richard Feynman, and Val Fitch. The project was overseen by Major General Leslie Groves. The United States government found out someone had found the secret to splitting uranium to create Uranium-235 (235U)

Some of the world’s greatest minds worked on the project solving very difficult equations and trying to find a way to create the uranium needed for the bomb. On the other hand scientist were using plutonium to create a second bomb which would prove successful. The plutonium bomb used an implosion method to detonate where a hollow dense sphere of plutonium-239 ,which also is difficult to obtain, is imploded to create critical mass causing fission and releasing the energy needed to demolish an entire city. There is still much that the general public does not know about how exactly the Atomic bomb was created, for obvious reasons so don’t go out thinking you are just going to make a bomb on your own that is illegal and
