The interrogation scene is a section near the beginning of the film. Thomas Anderson (Neo) is taken from his office by the Agents. We then see him in interrogation through the green filtered computer monitors. The Agents enter and ask if Neo can help them find Morpheus. Neo gives them the finger and asks for his phone call. Agent Smith intimidates Neo with the covered mouth trick, and then the Agents insert a bug into his stomach. Then Neo wakes up as if he dreamt of a nightmare.
Camera angles are a production feature used to help us understand what the film was going to be about. When Agent Smith puts Neo onto the table and intimidates him with the covered mouth trick, there is a low camera angle on Agent Smith. This forces the viewers to look up at him, the directors’ wanted to simulate the idea that Agent Smith was more powerful and was much stronger, therefore in control. This helps us understand that the film is about the idea of technology is a threat to humanity. Agent Smith, who represents technology, is threatening and intimidating Neo, who represents humanity. When the bug was being inserted into Neo’s belly button, he was shown through a low camera angle. The directors’ intended to make Neo look powerless and vulnerable. This scene makes us understand that technology is a threat to humanity. From this we learn that our society today has become too reliant on technology and it is taking over us. We are too comfortable with technology and believing that is safe and our privacy is protected (e.g uploading photos on social networking websites), therefore we don’t realize the consequences it may have. The most important thing is that we do not have control of what is done using technology; it is up to the actions of technology to decide. The directors’ are teaching us that we mustn’t let technology control us, as it can lead to consequences. The directors’ show us that we already are too reliant on the use of technology; we need to learn to control it.
Music is a production feature used to help us understand the idea of technology is a threat to humanity. When the bug was inserted into Neo’s belly button, we hear eerie music consisted of the building of violin strings which gives of an uneasy feeling. This production feature was used to make the viewers feel uneasy and uncomfortable. It is unpleasant, gives us a taste of how Neo was feeling. As the music intensifies, it gets louder and faster. This represents how rapidly technology is gaining control over us, humans. This uneasy sound of building of strings represents how uncomfortable humans would feel if they had control over their lives. The directors’ wanted the viewers to understand that the more we enhance our technology, the more control they gain over
