In The Monkey’s Paw the Whites are the third and last people to be able to use the Monkey’s Paw. They meet a friend who gives them the paw and tells them about its unusual properties. Three people can make three wishes before it becomes inert. Every wish will be granted, but with unintended consequences. He throws it in the fire, but Mr. White still takes it from the flames and their friend lets them use it. He leaves them with the potentially cataclysmic talisman and though he did warn them and try to destroy it he still allowed them to use it. I don’t think the Whites deserve what happened.
