On December 1, 1955 about 40,000 people boycotted the buses of Montgomery, Alabama. They Montgomery Bus Boycott took place because of unfair segregation on buses. The Montgomery bus boycott took a stand in history because they were not being treated equally or fairly so they boycotted the buses to change that.

The Montgomery bus boycott was caused because it was unfair to the African Americans. They had to sit on the very back of the bus because of their skin color while the white people got to sit wherever they wanted. Many African Americans were refusing to give up their seats on the bus. Martin Luther King Jr. was elected to be president of the boycott because he was young and well trained, he had few enemies, and he was new to the town. The montgomery bus boycott effects were large and widespread. The Montgomery bus boycott led to the Tallahassee Bus boycott. ("Effects of the Incident"). In the 50’s people thought it was bad to have dark skin. It was against the law for them to sit in the front of the bus. The boycott was trying to stop that. Rosa Parks did not give up her seat, and got arrested for it. The NAAPC (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) organized the boycott.
