The film, "The Patriot" plays with your heartstrings as you inevitably develop an emotional investment in each character who bravely endures the treacherous conditions of the American Revolutionary War. The movie is not only extremely entertaining but an accurate sentiment to the troubling times with an intense regard to the social conditions underlying the harsh political climate of Revolution, specifically in 1776 South Carolina. Illustrating the immense sacrifices made by the heroic Patriots in each vivid and unforgettable battle scene displaying the tactics used and war advances made on both sides. The Green Dragoons were not at all honorable especially sadistic Colonel William Tavington who ordered the murder of civilians and those neutral to war which is explicitly said to be wrong and unjust. Also following this disgusting mindset of ends justify the means, when seeing that Benjamin Martin was treating both the Patriots and British soldiers he burns down his house and the rest of the Martin Plantation. Not stopping there, he orders the murder of injured Gabriel which in turn tragedy strikes and the life of innocent Thomas is lost in his attempt to defend his brother from being executed. Originally declining to fight for the Continental army, blinded with grief and revenge for this inhumane killing of his young son, Benjamin Martin reverts back to his old ways restoring his reputation created during the French & Indian War. Home court advantage is only applied when the Patriots did not follow the rules of war and having the most impact through guerrilla warfare. This included fighting from behind trees and ambushing the unaware British. Building this fictions enemy to reflect real wrongful actions made by the British, Colonel Tavington later in the movie incinerates a church filled with the entirety of the town
