Lauryn Hill’s The Mystery of Iniquity is a musical piece that addresses the injustice in America. First and foremost, Lauryn Hill is an influential artist who speaks brutal truth in her work. She projects the hidden truths in society that no one else dares to even acknowledge. Hill’s audience becomes more informed and aware after listening to her harmonious art. The Mystery of Iniquity is one of her most influential and informative pieces. In the beginning of Mystery of Iniquity, it begins with the hook “It's the mystery of Iniquity, Said it's the misery of Inequity, Said it's the history of Inequity, When it all, All falls down, Telling you all, It all falls down.”. Iniquity is immoral behavior and inequity is lack of fairness. As a black woman in America she expresses how inequity has flourished since the start of slavery.
Moreover, she discusses how iniquity has been thriving in the judicial system. Hill is simply referring to the bias in America.
