Greed can influence many people in a negative way. In the article, " The Necklace," by Guy de Maupassant, the author portrays the theme, " Don't let greed influence you " by using irony and the rising action.
To begin, the author of, "The Necklace' portrays the theme by using irony. For example, " Suddenly she discovered, in a black satin case, a superb diamond necklace; her heart began to beat covetously." This shows that the author makes the necklace sound real based on how Mathilde acted, but later on in the article the necklace turns out to be fake. This portrays the theme by letting the reader know that Mathilde was being greedy and picks the jewelry with the most diamonds. This is how irony helps portray the theme in the article.
