After Pearl Harbor, the entire country saw the war effort as an “all hands on deck” situation. Evansville, Indiana was no exception, building things from P-47s to ammunition to LSTs. The entire community came together to meet the government’s demand for supplies. From the children to the elderly, everyone helped out. The LST shipyard was one enormous key in the war effort. This shipyard impacted Evansville and its citizens, the way the war was fought, and the outcome of the war. As the shipyard was built in Evansville, the word of jobs spread like wildfire, causing people to flood into the tri-state by the hundreds.
