This memoir could influence society and the reader by inspiring others to remain hopeful and showing that dreams can really come true even in the worst of times. After Farah moves to America, she reflects upon the events of her life in this quote “Now I don’t want to erase, or forget, or destroy any part of myself. I want to love myself and keep adding to who I am both Afghan and American. And today is not necessarily where it ends”. (Pg:249). At the conclusion of the book Farah is only 19, and reflects upon her lifetime of events thus far in her life.
