The narrator of “The Outsider” had many peculiar things happen in his past. He was raised by an old woman, he has never spoken or heard anyone speak, never seen the moon, and doesn’t even know what he looks like. Aside from that, he barely even remembers the past. He is most likely unreliable because of his lack of experience in anything. He has had no social interactions, and learned all he could from books in an ancient castle. He is likely to unsophisticated to fully understand the events of the story. On page 28, the narrator sees his reflection for the first time. He then discovers that he is an “abomination”.
