What is the perfect family? Is it the nuclear family where there is it a mother, father and children? Or could it be a single parent household? Nowadays there are many different types of family structures and this idea of ‘the perfect family’ is quite questionable and unrealistic!
After a survey was done in the UK in 2013 it shows that 3. Million children live in families headed by a lone parent where women account for 91% of all lone parent with children families.
In my opinion I believe that the statement ‘the perfect family’ is just a figment of our society’s imagination as I don’t believe anyone has the ‘perfect family’. Each family is unique in its own right, no one family is the same. Our generation is becoming more and more open and accepting of different family structures like; extended families, adopted families, multicultural families and same sex families.
A well-known example of an adoptive and multicultural family is that of Brad and Angelina Jolie. Angelina first adopted her son Maddox Chivan when he was only 7 months old from an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Jolie then went on to adopt a daughter, six-month-old Zahara Marley, from an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is significant that Angelina had adopted these children originally as a single parent but then Brad followed suit and adopted them as his own also. Later in 2006, Jolie gave birth to a daughter, Shiloh Nouvel, in Swakopmund, Namibia. The couple confirmed that their new-born daughter would have a Namibian passport. Spring of 2007 saw Jolie adopt a son, three-year-old Pax Thien, from an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Finally Brad and Angelina confirmed that they were expecting twins. Angelina gave birth to a son, Knox Léon, and a daughter, Vivienne Marcheline, on July 12, 2008 in Nice, France. A very controversial issue in today’s world is the issue of Same sex-marriage and families. Elton john who had previously been married to a
