This book begins at the end where it is a year later then from when everything happened. They are writing a book in alternating authors about the Pigman and to tell their story about him. John and Lorraine are in tenth grade. They are each social outcasts and met on a bus and became friends. John, Lorraine Denise, and Norton all play a game where you find a random number in the phone book and call it. You have to see how long you can keep them on the phone. It was Lorraine's turn and when the old man answered she pretended to be a social worker for a charity. He seemed very mundane at first. The man did not ask any questions and offered to donate 10 dollars. John then took the phone and said that they would be over tomorrow to pick it up.
