The Onion is an American news satire station that publishes news from all over the world. Skimming down the list of pros and cons of having police body cameras, I could see that each bullet point is making fun of the police force. The funny part is that some of the lists they have down are true. Throughout their list of pros and cons, they were intentionally making fun of the body camera within the police task force. Having an ‘unlimited footage of police officers breathing heavily during a foot chase’ means that we are not going to see anything except out of shape officers trying to chase down the convict. Both examples like “Turning camera askew allows officers to record beating with stylish Dutch angles” and “gives Americans glimpse at what it’s like to turn on that siren and gun it straight through a red light” are not something we should let the public witness. Both reasons of having body cameras sound more like footages shown in a blockbuster movie. On the cons side it mainly focused on police brutality against citizens. “Major invasion of privacy for police officer and man he has in chokehold”, “Those could be anyone’s arms bashing citizen with nightstick” and “Police Brutality might lose its mystique”. All three reasons of why body cameras would not work relates to incidents where police officers misuse their authority and attacking an un-harmful citizen. The Onion is trying to point out that even we apply the rules of having body cameras, things will never change within some of the
