The anti-federalists, despite their name, weren’t against the federalists. As stated in the quote “…the new Constitution, the President and Senate have all the executive, and two thirds of the legislative power...” The anti-federalists believe that the constitution gave the federal government way too much power. They feel bitter over the fact that states were to be taxed for the comfort of the federal militia because they believe that having one is unnecessary (“As long as we can preserve our unalienable rights, we are in safety”). The anti-federalists believed the constitution needed the bill of rights to protect individual rights because of the overwhelming threat of power from the federal government. They refused to validate the constitution unless the bill of rights was included.

They believed that a bill of rights needed to be added to the Constitution to protect the rights of the people which would give more citizens opportunities to be heard. Anti-Federalists also felt that a government that takes away individual freedoms is not worth having. The federalists didn't have an open mind to any improvements that could have been made to the constitution. For sure I believe that the states should have more power and I also believe that a strong centralized government would have been too
