Though the Electoral College has been the way in which presidents of the United States are elected for the past few hundred years, I don’t think it is necessary in the election process.
First of all, the Electoral College has a lot of drawbacks. For example, a candidate can win overwhelmingly in terms of electoral votes but loose the popular votes. Because most states choose to adopt the “winner takes all” system, it is possible that the electoral votes do not reflect the opinions of the majority in the country.
Also, because the delegates for the Electoral College are elected based on regions, gerrymandering may occur. Certain party may choose to redraw the district so candidates from that particular party will be elected because the majority
