Affirmative Action in the United Sates is a set of policies, laws and guidelines intended to end and correct the effects of a specific form of discrimination at the workplace and school system. It came in to Unite States government in 1961 when President John F. Kennedy issued an executive order stating that all federally funded projects had to “take affirmative action” to ensure that racial bias would no longer affect the hiring of employees. In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prevented discrimination based on race, sex, religion and national origin. Pretty much it meant to help minorities advance in society with given them special treatment in admission to universities or employed in businesses and government. Though affirmative action has its good intentions, I believe that now a day it hurts more than the few it helps.

Yes, it was the best solution the government was able to come up with for discrimination, but times have change where affirmative action should no longer be needed as it was in the past. In the past decades it has helped to promote equality in the workplace and schools, and has opened a lot of doors to the minorities for more opportunity to excel in life. We are now in a whole different era that I believe that affirmative action is no longer needed as it was needed back a few decades ago. I totally understand the reason and the boost it gave to minorities, but I believe it is a harmful action now. I believe it places under qualified people in positions that are demanding, and by doing that they do not benefit from nothing nor does
