Upon reading 1 Samuel 18 in conjunction with our class discussion I had pondered on the idea of a king wanting to kill his most powerful general. Surely, one does not abandon their most power weapon without reason. Thus, why did Saul desire of killing David?
Malcolm X best said it, “Envy blinds men and makes it impossible for them to think clearly”. Thus, was it envy that caused Saul’s desire of wanting to kill David or was there a valid threat of a military coup d'état that David presented? 1 Samuel 18: 7-9, supports the first theory, when examined on a purely literalist perspective. However, one can also argue for the second theory, which I do. Nonetheless, I do not disregard the idea of envy; in fact, I would go as far as to say that envy
