Besides racism, slavery was also a major issue during the 20th century, that was resolved by César Chávez (1927-1933). Born as a farm laborer, Chávez have previously experienced and witnessed harsh routine working conditions, such as being unpaid, abused by employers, and provided huts as shelters, which often lacked medical and basic facilities. Being irritated with this, he decided to battle for recognition of rights for agricultural workers. He formed and led laborers as a group, known as United Farm Workers. They frequently marched, went on strike, and boycotted the employers, with the purposes of forcing them to pay fair wages and owning responsibility, when they violate their workers Bill of Rights.
