Salsa began in Eastern Cuba, from the Cuban Son and Afro-Cuban dance in 1920. Spanish and Afro-Cuban musical instruments and rhythms were combined together to create the style. New York created the term ‘Salsa’ and the name became popular to refer to different dance styles. Some of these include; the cha cha, flamenco , Merengue, Rhumba, tango and Bomba. Some of these remained separate and many were mixed together to create the salsa we know today. It has spread through the whole world . The first recorded performance of Salsa was when the Cubans came back from exploring and danced the Salsa. The music was often played on radios during the beginning of the style.
