When he was hit, he did not seem to have much pain, the author described him as used to the pain, as if he knew how to deal with it. O’Flaherty writes, “..He broke the neck of the iodine bottle and let the bitter fluid drip into the wound.” (#2) this is significant as the sniper seemed to know how to treat his own wounds, which hints at the fact that he might have earlier military or medical experience showing that the author uses foreshadowing to show the readers a little more on the sniper’s background, and his previous experiences with war.
The story “The Sniper” By Liam O’Flaherty, is one that revolves around the life of a Republican sniper and how his life is taken over by a war that goes on in his city. The city of Dublin was a war crazed city where people fought each other. War is a time when everyone forgets their own family and fights for themselves. The war that has taken over the city has ruined everyone’s lives and changed how they think, making everyone think and act
