The both continued to discuss about the plan and Dave gives all the names he knows that are connected to Mr. Martinez. The next morning, many leaders of multiple gangs were arrested. Many had connections with Mr. Martinez. Mr. Martinez was the last target to get. It was hard to enter Cicero. Many knew what was going on. They weren’t going to let them capture him. A huge shootout was taking place in 26th street. After hours of fighting, time was over for Mr. Martinez. He was captured.
It was 1997. Four years have passed. Now Dave is 26. He was tired of eating junk everyday. Depression had gotten into his system. His mother had died and he still knew nothing about his father. Cynthia had a family but he never knew about it.
“Mr. Lopez! Time to go home.”
“Oh boy! Waited for this a long time ago.”
Dave walks out the gates and could smell the fresh air. He looks at the green grass, trees, flowers and realizes what great mistake he had made. He was valuing life way more now that he was released from prison. He never wants to step in their again. After his release, he drives around Chicago, looking at what has changed and what has not.
