In the two novels, The Sorrow of War and The Things They Carried, both the soldiers are impacted by the war throughout similar and different personal events. The Vietnam War was an overwhelming time for the soldiers. Not only were they suffering from traumatic experiences they encountered, but upon returning home many did not have the support they needed to get through this time. “Losses can be made good, damage can be repaired, and wounds will heal in time.
