All the children were removed from their homes by governments, churches and other welfare bodies to be moved to institutions, fostered out or even adopted by white families to be brought up in their homes. This removal of all the Aboriginal children took place from the early days of the British colonisation of Australia, but also has also broken such important cultural, spiritual and the family ties that leave a lasting and intergenerational impact on all the lives and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
