The Stono Rebellion was a slave uprising located in Stono, South Carolina. September 1739, a group of slaves from Kongo, who had been soldiers, seized numerous amount of weapons. They marched towards Florida killing all whites that they encounter along the way chanting “liberty.” The reason for the slaves to go to Florida was because the Spanish promised them “Liberty and Protections” from the British colonies. “The rebellion took the lives of more than two dozen whites and as many 200 slaves, including many who had no connection to the rebellion” (Foner, 148). 1740, some slaves made it to Florida and was armed by the Spanish to help rebel on attack of St. Augustine by a force from Georgia.
