The Struggle in Nickeled and Dimed All across America, several people struggle with trying to support their families or "make ends meet". While many of these Americans are unemployed, several are also people who have low-paying professions, and so must work several of them in order to supports their families. Such is explored in Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickeled and Dimed. In the novel, Barbara, an investigative journalist, explores the hardships of those who are forced to work in low-paying professions.
