Friendship is a relationship between friends. You can either have good friends or bad friends. In “Of Mice and Men” the theme “friendship” is portrayed between the main characters, George and Lennie. George is skinny and has the brains of the two, Lennie is very big and is the one that can do the most work. I believe that George is a good friend to Lennie in “Of Mice and Men” for various reasons. (Steinbeck 13) George says he was joking about wanting Lennie to leave and tells Lennie that he wants him to stay. (Steinbeck 16) Lennie tells George to that he can leave and go away but George says sarcastically that Lennie can go to hell even though we know George wants to Lennie stay.
Even though some might say George is a bad friend to Lennie he does good acts to make up for being mean. (Steinbeck 40) George tells Lennie to jump in a river even though Lennie can’t swim. George still helped Lennie and saved him from drowning. (Steinbeck 106) George shot and killed his best friend. George killed Lennie so maybe Lennie wouldn’t have to suffer from other men killing him. (Steinbeck 41) George tells Slime that he smacked Lennie with a fence posts. George only smacked Lennie with a fence post so he could let go of the girl and so they could escape from the men in town from lynching
