The RMS Titanic was one of the largest ships built in Britain in the 1900’s and for a very long time after that, it was one of three Olympic Class ocean liners. It was made to be one of the largest and fanciest ships of its time and it took over 2 years to build with over 15,00 men employed to build the hefty construction. The ship was built in Belfast and was set to voyage from Southampton on the 10th of April 1912, to New York City. The boat was designed to be ‘Unsinkable’which makes it somewhat ironic that it is known as one of the most iconic ships, for its fatal sinking. There was around 2,228 people on board the Titanic when it sank, even though the boat was originally made for about 3,500 passengers. Out of all these people only about 710 passengers survived the sinking. Many question whether the loss of life could have been reduced. For example it was later found out that the Titanic only contained enough life-boats to carry 1,178 people to safety. Aswell as this, the majority of life-boats were not filled to their capacity, life-boat 1 carried only 12 passengers and crew members even though it could have carried about 40 people. The titanic struck disaster when it hit a large iceberg in the Atlantic ocean at 11:40pm on April 14th 1912. It took just over two and a half hours for the ship to sink entirely, which is incredibly quick considering how much if a beast the ship was. After the catastrophic event there was worldwide shock because of the loss of lives. The sinking of the Titanic really brought to light how slack the maritime safety wasm this meant that 2 years later(1914) one of the most
