The rebuttals for counterarguments are anticipated objections for the counterargument to their argument. The authors may put these rebuttals in their arguments to discourage what the opposing side may argue with. These authors state their counterargument saying that their counter parts may say increasing the minimum wage will negatively affect businesses “Curiously, most members of Congress who take a hard line on immigration also strongly oppose increasing the minimum wage, claiming it will hurt businesses and reduce jobs” here the authors state how the members of congress will disagree with his claims about minimum wage (Dukakis & Mitchell, 2006). The last aspect of the Toulmin method is qualifications. Qualifications specify the limits from the claim, warrant, and backing. The authors of the excerpt specify the limits to their claim by saying jobs may be lost because of the raising of minimum wage “If we raise the minimum wage, it’s possible some low end jobs may be lost; but more Americans would also be willing to work in such jobs, thereby denying them to people who aren’t supposed to be here in the first place” this is a qualification because, the author states the limits that his claims carry (Dukakis & Mitchell, 2006).
