Zeus; the god of sky and ruler of the Olympian gods, concluded that the number of humans that inhabit earth was far too high, and decided it was time to decrease it. Furthermore, as he had various affairs with mortal women and was proclaimed to have fathered demigod children, he too thought it would be a far more better idea, if he were to get rid of them too. The goddess had been stopped at the door by Hermes, leading to an aggravated goddess. Before she left, she threw her gifts amidst the guest in her fit of rage; the Apple of discord, a golden apple in which the words “to the fairest” had been inscribed on the gold skin of the fruit. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite has caused a dispute over who deserves the apple, and decided that Zeus shall have the last say. Through his discomfort and unease, it was easy to tell that Zeus was having a hard time figuring out who shall keep the apple. He knew that if he chose one out of the two females, he’d cause anger and quarrel. So instead, Zeus abstain, appointing Paris, the young prince of Troy, to decide. Paris could not make a decision, even after seeing the three goddesses unclothed, so they started bribing him; Hera claims that Paris will get political power and be the ruler of the continents of Asia; Athena would provide him wisdom and exceeding skills in battle; and Aphrodite propose on giving him the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Sparta.
