At seventeen years old, Robert G. Heft fabricated our current fifty – star flag as a school project in 1958. And he received a B on the project. I know what you’re thinking: that such a significant part of our nation’s culture couldn’t have earned a B in a High School class. That’s exactly what Robert thought, too. So, unwilling to submit to this severe injustice, he made an agreement with his teacher that if his flag was accepted by the U.S. Congress, the grade would be changed to an A. Now, we all know how the story ends. Robert was awarded the A of course!
