Technology has made great advances on a global scale, especially within the last half century. Works of fiction and informational texts have addressed the numerous influences of modern innovation. Even though technological advances can be beneficial they can also be detrimental to the society.
Both “The Veldt” and self driving cars can have many good advantages. In “The Veldt” the family can just think of what they want to do and it just appears on the wall. And they are so much into the room that it gets into there mind and in the end they end up killing their parents just because they wouldn't let them into the room(Radbury). Disadvantages for the self driving car is the price. The price for just one of the self driving cars is over $100,000 and that's just for the software, sensors and computers(Self). The computers and all of the new technology will be a big powerhouse for hackers to take control of your car(Self). Which could lead to death or serious injury. The unemployment rate in america could go up because a lot of ubers and taxi drivers would go out of business because the car could take the people wherever they wanted to go. The cars are also not able to operate in various weather conditions(Self). Heavy rain can do lots of damage to the lasers and sensors on the outside of the car. Plus if a traffic light was out and a police officer was directing traffic the car wouldn't be able to understand the police officer because it doesn't recognize hand signals.
