The late 1930’s and 1940’s were a challenging time for people across the world, especially in Europe. Hitler's power became hard to compete with, and destruction started to take over. This was especially true in Poland when Germany invaded. On September 29th 1939, they went to the capital city of Warsaw. Warsaw had the highest Jewish population, holding a little over 380,000 Jewish residents at the time. Four weeks prior to German forces intruding, the Jewish population of Warsaw was split up into cities and towns before establishing the ghetto. The ghetto was officially established on October 12, 1940.
