On August 28, 1963, Washington D.C had more than 250,000 people gathered to march for jobs and freedom. This nonviolent demonstration demanded an end to racial segregation, jobs for the white and black unemployed, a $2 minimum wage, and banning discrimination in housing supported by federal funds. Many civil rights groups such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the American Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO), the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) were included and contributed to this movement. Participants in this movement congregated at the Washington monument grounds with signs and people sung civil rights songs. The Washington monument
