In The Wordy Shipmates, Sarah Vowell makes numerous observations about the Great Migration Puritans that maintain relevance to modern-day events. One such observation describes their attitude towards the Native Americans, citing that Winthrop’s group believed that “we’re here to help, whether you want our help or not” (Vowell 25). They derived this ideal from the vision of the Apostle Paul, who saw a Macedonian man who asked him to “Come over into Macedonia, and help us”.
