The next morning Janie wakes up only to find that Tea Cake is once again missing. Janie starts to doubt the reason for Tea Cake being with her and is contemplating whether to leave or not. Finally, Tea Cake returns with more money then what he took the first time. Tea Cake gave the money to Janie and at that moment Janie realized that she really did trust him and told him about the money she had stored in the bank. Tea Cake turns around to Janie looks at her and says “put that two hundred back wid de rest, Janie. Mah dice. Ah need no assistance tuh help me feed mah women.”(Hurston 150) The context here applies that Tea Cake is showing to Janie that she does not have to be the one to provide for people anymore. It is her time now to enjoy life and for once let someone who truly loves her take care of her. The author uses the word “assistance” which on the surface level can be shown as needs help; However, on a connotative level look at the sentence as a full meaning and the imply the word no in front of it, it comes off as him wanting to take power and show Janie that there are people out there who really do care about
