During the Georgian era in England, many significant historical and political events occurred that may have influenced Pride and Prejudice, including advancements, revolutions, and wars. To begin, America and Britain had rising tensions, as colonists grew increasingly angry with being unfairly taxed. This led to the Boston Massacre and “the British government [removing] the Townshend duties on all commodities with the exception of tea” in 1770 (Oxford Reference). That only led to another rebellion in 1773: the Boston Tea Party, the beginning of the Revolutionary War in 1775, and America gaining independence from Britain on July 4th, 1776 (Oxford Reference). There were also major innovations, such as the spinning jenny and the cotton gin, as this was the beginning of the Industrial Revolution (Oxford Reference and history). Advancements like these, and those within the iron industry, caused growth that helped in the Napoleonic wars. The Napoleonic Wars spanned from 1799-1815 and likely impacted the writing of Pride and Prejudice (Oxford Reference). France started these wars to prove their strength and later “they became efforts by Napoleon to affirm his supremacy in the balance of European power” (Britannica). France was triumphant in multiple wars from 1800-1809 including the Battle of Marengo, the Battle of Trafalgar, the Battles of Ulm and Austerlitz, Jena and Auerstedt, and Friedland (Britannica). This left most of Europe either controlled by or allied to France, making them extremely powerful. Shortly after, in 1814 and again in 1815, Napoleon was abdicated twice after failures and the Napoleonic Wars were over
