reality towards Othello. Iago’s plan to destroy Othello first appears when he found out Othello gave the lieutenant position to Michael Cassio instead of him. In the play, Iago states, “The native act and figure of my heart/ in complement extern, this not long after/ but I will wear my heart upon my sleeve/ For daws to peck at; I am not what I am” (1.1.58-63). Iago is working with Othello out of love and respect, but he is doing it for revenge. Even though Iago felt he deserves this position, he should not have any thoughts of revenge. He does not know if Othello has another position for him that will suit him better. Iago also points out, “The moor is of a free and open nature/ that thinks men honest that but seem to be so;/ and will as tenderly be led by the hose/ as asses are” (1.3.390-393). Iago is a tricky character who takes his wicked ideas and doings to a whole new level. Othello, in fact, is a gullible person who does not always stop and think about Iago’s actions. He listens and jumps right into conclusion. It appeared to him that Iago is an honest man but in fact, he was just planning Othello’s downfall. The villain is manipulating Othello’s, mind not realizing how trustworthy he
