The novel, Stones, jumps across different topics which involve us in many ways: the supernatural, history of Ontario, and so on. But one of its most noticeable subjects, 'labeling', reveals itself with purpose on why the three, most involved characters, Garnet, Raphaella and Hannah, have names branded on their roles. Not only that but in the situation that they are labeled reflects on how people in real life are identified as well, regardless of where it happened or when. Through this novel, William Bell makes the concept of 'labeling' clearer not just in this fictional story, but in the real world simultaneously. Through this book, a lesson is taught in which people of any age can relate to.
