The novel Roots by Alex Haley conveys a multitude of life lessons that can be applied to the everyday life of the reader and help them learn more about themselves. This book was extremely unique and had a moving , and powerful effect on my personal life that will help me progress as a person in the future. One part that stood out to me in Roots was the return of author Alex Haley to his ancestral home in Juffure, Gambia . The tribes people there accepted him and related to him as one which resulted in Haley weeping in joy by being reunited with his ancestors relatives. Haley's reunification conveys a sense of rejoice and happiness at being reunited with his "roots" after hundreds of years of isolation . Taking from this event , it has assisted me in recognizing the importance of family bonds and relationships . To me , it is like a small wake up call to get in touch with relatives I have not seen in years , and not to take them for granted as they could disappear without a trace at any given time. It has taught me to become closer with my family and not being isolated to myself. I can relate this book to The Cay by Theodore Taylor where a young boy named Phillip becomes stranded on a island with a old man named Timothy . These books both relate due to strong presence of family bonds , as in Roots it's desired by Kunta , and then his descendant
