Remarkable economist, social philosopher, and political analyst Thomas Sowell has significantly advanced a number of academic disciplines. Though he was raised in Harlem, New York, he was born in North Carolina in 1930. He left school to enlist in the US Marine Corps, where he photographed during the Korean War. He next picked up his studies at Howard University, where he became interested in economics. He then proceeded to Harvard University for his bachelor's degree, Columbia University for his master's, and the University of Chicago for his doctorate, where he studied under Nobel laureate Milton Friedman.
