As Americans we are lucky to have a public education system, education today in America is suffering compared to other developed countries. Currently the government is pulling money from educational art programs to fund less important things. If we do not make some major changes to the current education system in place, then our Nation will continue to fall behind.
In the novel Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace… One School at a Time. The writers compare current day education in Pakistan, to education in America. Although the American education system is much more advanced than that in Pakistan, according to the novel Pakistani children show more desire to learn. Greg Mortenson, the author of the book, speaks of how he saw Pakistani children studying on their own with no teacher present. He could not imagine American children having the same motivation to learn based on what he has seen. While Pakistan has proven to be more educationally driven than America, there are still many factors here at home hindering our educational growth.

The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) passed by George W. Bush was an attempt to help our education system, but has proven to only worsen the situation. The Act was meant to push schools to achieve at higher standards. Schools that wish to receive funding from the Act must abide by the Act’s rules and regulations.
